Middle School Description

Our middle school is a collaborative group of talented individuals who are ¨Teamed¨ by grade level or by department area. For example there are grade level teams for 6th, 7th and 8th grades as well as subject teams such as language arts, social studies and math that cross grade levels. Middle school teachers meet weekly with the administrative team to discuss student academic and behavior challenges, discuss grade level projects and for the continuity of communication and planning.  Departments meet monthly for alignment of curriculum, standards and benchmarks, effective instructional strategies, sharing project ideas and planning school-wide events and activities for their department.

Middle school uses the TRIBES program – which emphasizes the building of positive and collaborative learning community for students and staff. We believe in being proactive to the issues that teenagers face.  For that reason we have a variety of programs offering tools and incentives that promote values such as respect and responsibility. During homeroom time each day there are mini-lessons that focus on character and value development, organizational skills, anti-bullying programs, goal-setting and much more.  We also offer prevention programs through our counseling office on peer pressure, drugs and alcohol and conflict resolution. We have quarterly award ceremonies and fun days to celebrate the success of our students. 

Our program includes music, band, dance, art, photography, technology, French and physical education in addition to core subjects.  The classes taught in English include math, language arts, science, social studies and technology. The classes taught in Spanish include Colombian social studies, Spanish and religion/ethics and values.  We offer intervention for students who need extra help in a variety of ways.   Teachers have office hours once per week and also conduct tutoring sessions twice a month after school during school hours.   In addition, we have a learning center specialist and an English intervention teacher. 
The school offers an after-school program  with sports activities and other classes.  

We have a full time counselor and Dean of Students. The Middle school team is a fun and enthusiastic group of professionals that work for the best interest of the students.
